Hi! My name is Julie and this is my story.
I first started kayaking on August 26, 2022. I had never kayaked before in my life, nor did I have any kayaking friends. I was going crazy trying to find things to do and I got this “wild” idea that I should try kayaking. So, I didn’t rent a kayak and try it out. Nope! I started looking for one to buy. After several weeks of research and combing online sales, I finally found one that I liked and more importantly, that I could afford.
My first kayak was a 10′ Pelican sit inside recreation/fishing kayak! I loved that kayak. It was so comfortable.
My first trip out was phenomenal. I had done quite a bit of studying regarding paddling, maneuvering and safety before I headed out onto the water, so I felt prepared. In addition to all of that, I’m a strong swimmer and I’m not afraid to fall in the water. So, off I went.
My very first trip was a major success and I immediately fell in love with the sport of kayaking.
The more trips I made and the longer distances I embarked upon, I began to feel as though I would need a better kayak. First and foremost, it needed to be longer and it needed to be affordable. So, my first trip out with my new kayak was June 23, 2023. I purchased a Wilderness Systems Pungo 120. It is 12’2″ long and is fabulous!
Over the last 2 years, I have purchased all kinds of accessories. I’ve purchased clothing, hats, new kayak paddle, safety/tow rope, waterproof gloves and shoes, water containers, bilge pump, first aid kit, waterproof bag, new kayak rack for my car, new kayak rack for outside, waterproof tarp, and the list goes on. If you’re serious about kayaking, these are all necessary items!
Needless to say, I am considered a “serious” kayaker at this point. In 2023, I embarked upon over 35 kayak trips beginning in the month of March. And in 2024, I expect that number to go up.
So, subscribe to my site so you can vicariously embark on my journeys with me in an online format.
I welcome all feedback, suggestions and helpful hints!
I hope you enjoy reading about my kayaking adventures.
